The Doorpost's inaugural year was driven by our Short Film Competition, which received nearly 300 entries in the first round. From that pool, 15 finalists were awarded $10,000 cash plus a $7,500 credit toward the making of another film, done as a work-for-hire, to be entered in the second round of competition. Of these remarkable shorts, three were voted to receive $20,000, $30,000 and $100,000 prizes, announced at our September 13th awards event in Nashville.
While we've invested over $400,000 in support of independent filmmaking, it is our heart for community among filmmakers that truly distinguishes the Doorpost Film Project. 2008 saw the Doorpost website grow from a mere contest announcement to a full-fledged online networking platform for filmmakers. Second round participants were brought together in June, an opportunity to meet one another and the Doorpost staff. These relationships carried through the second round to the Nashville awards event and are still developing as the Doorpost community continues.
