2009 Short Film Contest

The 2009 Short Film Contest welcomes shorts seven minutes or less on one of the following five topics:
From first round submissions, 10 Finalists will be selected to produce a final round film on the topic of hope. These entries, funded by the Doorpost Film Project, will be used to determine top competition prize winners.

January 1: Early registration begins. ($40)
February 1: Regular registration begins. ($50)
March 1: Late registration begins. ($60)
March 15: Round 1 submission deadline.
March 1 - 31: Round 1 selection process & filmmaker notification.
April 1 - 30: Accepted films posted online for viewer voting.
May 8: 10 Finalists notified.
May 15: 10 Finalists announced.
May 29 - 31: Finalist pre-production planning meeting in Jax., FL.
June 30: Finalist script deadline for final round film on Hope.
August 14: Finalist film submission deadline.
August 22 - 31: 10 Finalist films debuted online.
September 1 - 16: Final round online viewer voting.
September 17 - 19: Symposium & awards ceremony in Nashville, TN.

The Doorpost is offering over $500,000 in total prizes during the '09 competition, including all-expense paid trips, final round film budgets, and the following top contest prizes:
$100,000 Grand Prize
$35,000 2nd Place Prize
$25,000 3rd Place Prize
$15,000 Filmmakers Choice Award

Late Registration (Mar. 1-15): $60


The Doorpost structures its competition purposefully to build community. Our Finalist get-together in May and Symposium/Awards events in September provide the opportunity for filmmakers and the Doorpost staff to meet, and serve to bring unity, friendship and direction into the competitive environment. In the past these events have marked the beginning of various creative and professional partnerships among filmmakers as well.
