Eight-year-old Josie is bright, artistic and curious. She longs to grow up but her young student mother, Helen, is afraid to let her. When Josie accidentally offends a holocaust survivor, Helen realizes she cannot shield her daughter forever and helps Josie take her first step into a larger world.
