//Shalini's Favorite Things About Filmmaking
My favorite thing about filmmaking is sitting in the dark with a group of strangers and watching them laugh or cry or be affected by something that I have made. I am awed by the power of his medium to move people...
//Shalini's Camera of Choice
I usually shoot with the Panasonic HVX200A DVCPRO HD P2 Camera with film lenses & I have lust for the Genesis camera that I worked with once...
//Shalini's Editing Software of Choice
I've used Final Cut Pro since the software was invented... before that I used avid.
//Shalini Became a Filmmaker Because
I was 19 years old, and I was in a Buddhist monastery in South India, one of the 13 villages India gave Tibetan refugees. I heard 800 monks chanting this deep-throated rayer and was acutely aware that this community was recreating their traditions in exile. Something sort of hit me in my heart, and I knew that there were stories that I needed to tell that I couldn't express in words. This was before I knew aperture, or iris or anything about filmmaking. I started to put imaginary picture frames on everything I saw and it was almost as if I discovered my sense of sight in a new way.

I just watched your Pain video, I really liked it. I did not get a chance to watch it during the contest. I think I was too concerned with watching the Greed shorts since that was where mine was, ironic I know. But great job and congrats with making it to the finalists, will you be competing again in the next contest?

The Truth //
I feel we are completely naive if we thought for a second that a Nashville-based, faith-oriented festival wouldn't pick the local Nashville preacher to win. His movie was OK at best and I couldn't help grimacing at the Doorpost's own organizers fawning over John Gray during the award ceremony, one of them even stating that he actually prayed together with the preacher/director on set asking God for good weather (which indeed they got)! Not to mention Mr. Gray thanking God at least five times during his acceptance speech, crediting Him for the win. The Doorpost should have made it clearer from the beginning that their festival was a religious one. I feel sorry for those guys who flew in from Australia and England thinking they had a shot. Apparently they were up against the Almighty himself !! Sadly, this biased attitude is how most festivals work. What a shameless partisan choice... what this festival did was crushing my HOPE and FAITH in film festivals. Ironic?

This post is long overdue. I wanted to be sure to tell you how much I enjoyed RED. I know you put so much work into the comic book sequence, and it worked perfectly. Very nice touch. Blessings!
